The Cagers started out their 2024-25 season with a bang, beating Mohican Young Star Academy (MYSA) by a score of 68-34.
It didn’t take long for the Cagers to find their groove as they raced out to a big lead led by Aaron Meech. The 6’1 senior guard was virtually unstoppable as he scored in a myriad of ways. “Aaron is a really nice player. He can really score, and he is unselfish. It’s a great combination,” said Head Coach Doug Hamsher. Junior Luke DeRodes, the lone returner from last year’s team, had a nice game himself pouring in 14 points, all in the paint. A nice surprise was freshman Nigel Wenger, who caught fire from the outside canning three 3-pointers in route to a career high 16-point game. Logan Winans had a crafty game. The freshman held his own as he pump-faked, hesitated, and spun his way to 10 points. And Kyle Miller, a sophomore was the recipient of dimes dished by Meech. He ended up with 6 points.

The Cagers again started fast and never looked back in beating Faith Christian Academy 46-36. Aaron Meech once again led the way. The senior’s high paced play and competitive spirit is a match up nightmare for opposing teams. He fired in 21 points to lead all scorers. Nigel Wenger and Brock Cannon had 8 each. Logan Winans had 5 and Luke DeRodes rounded out the scoring column with 4. “Notching our second win in as many games is a good start. With the exception of Aaron and Luke, we are a very young team. We have a ways to go to find an identity, but I think with more practice and the addition of some depth, we can become a competitive team down the stretch,” said Head Coach Doug Hamsher.
