THE CAGER CODE

WHAT IS THE CAGER CODE?

At Cager Basketball, we believe that basketball is more than checkmarks in the wins and losses columns. Our goal is to transform young men through the teaching of fundamentals and game strategies, as well as a focus on character development. We work to build champions both on and off the court. During the season, each of the following CODES will be taught during practice and team members will be encouraged to learn how to implement them both on and off the court.

1. We listen with eyes and ears.

2. We run on the floor.

3. We are on time for everything.

4. We are responsible for our actions.

5. We communicate, encourage and acknowledge.

6. We never tolerate less than our best efforts from ourselves and our teammates.

7. We find solutions – not excuses.

8. We say and do the right thing.

Character Curriculum

Forging Men of Character

Forged is a manufacturing word. If something is forged, it is hammered into a desired shape by heating and hammering. In years gone by a blacksmith may take a long piece of metal and through the continual process of heating and hammering, it is forged into a useful tool such as a horseshoe or a sword.

In the same way, life forges men. Through the fires and hammering of life's trials, men are forged into men of character.

This year the theme of the Cager varsity boys basketball team is FORGED. The acronym stands for Faithful, Optimistic, Relentless, Grateful, Enthusiastic, and Disciplined. It is our hope that these young men, by way of the game of basketball, are FORGED into men of character that reflect the acronym.
